Learners Without Borders
Our LWB 2016 Trip to El Salvador was a huge success!
This summer we patnered with Voices on the Border to send a delegation of High School Learners Leaders to teach chess in El Salvador! Thanks to the generous support of our community and donors all over the country, we raised $11,194.18. That along with the initial $1,200 we had from extra funds raised for Learners’ past chess service trip, helped us fully fund this journey with enough left to get a future Learners Without Borders trip started! Help us continue to make this incredible opportunity available for years to come, please do make a donation today!
Meet our 2016 Team
My life has been greatly impacted by the game of chess, and I hope to be able to give back by teaching others about this game that has given, taught, and meant so much to me.
I believer this experience will greatly improve my Spanish and my chess, and will hopefully open doors for the future to come. I also hope that, with this opportunity, I will learn to help both my community and our global community. I believe we are making the world a better place by showing what a great impact chess can have on a person and a group of kids.
Please click on the button above to help me reach my goal of raising $2,500, and make this opportunity possible for all of us.
I have been a Learners student since 5th grade, and I’ve been teaching chess and helping out with Learners’ summer program since middle school. This summer, I’m excited to challenge myself while helping others in El Salvador by teaching them how to play chess. I will be developing my own teaching and Spanish-speaking skills while leaving a lasting, positive impact on the community of the Bajo Lempa region. To do this, I need to raise $2500 in order to pay for plane tickets, transportation in El Salvador, food, and other such necessities.
I appreciate a donation of anything you can give!
I am so excited to go on trip to kick off our new Learners Without Borders program! I believe this project will greatly influence our high school chess leaders and it will also have a great impact on the communities where we’ll be teaching chess.
I am excited to travel to El Salvador and share the ancient game of chess and add value to the communities and the schools of Amando Lopez and Bajo Lempa.
My personal goal is to fundraise $2,500 to fund my travel and expenses for this service trip. Can you contribute $100 or more to help me reach my goal?Thank you!
Building Off the Work of Our 2013 Oklahoma Chess Camp
When we took on this effort, our ABQ chess parent community responded with an out-pouring of support and now, because of the extra money we raised then, we have been able to kick start our efforts now!
From June 10-14th, 2013, weeks after the devastating tornadoes hit Moore, Oklahoma, Coach Victor and Coach Doug traveled to Moore to pitch into the community relief by running a free chess camp for the kids of Moore whose families were impacted by the recent storms. Our trip to El Salvador will be the next step in developing a service-oriented branch of Learners Chess.
