Learners Chess Covid Guidelines for In-Person Programs
Guidelines may change closer to the start of your in-person program, so please revisit this page before attending an in-person program.These guidelines are current as of: March 20th, 2022
Steps Learners is taking to keep our students healthy
- Boards and Pieces will be sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant
- All dirty writing utensils will be sanitized
- Cubbies will be sanitized
- All tables, chairs, and door handles will be sanitized
- The bathroom will be thoroughly cleaned
- All Coaches are vaccinated.
- Hand sanitizer will be available at all times
- Cleansing wipes will be available at all times
- Cubbies will be provided to students to keep their writing utensils and worksheets in to keep their materials separate
- An air purifier will be running to keep clean air circulating through the chess classroom
- Lunch will be held outside as often as the weather allows us
- We are enforcing the steps we ask our students to take as well, so check those out below
- All Coaches are vaccinated
- All Coaches will be following and enforcing any additional Rules and Safety Measures set by the hosting school / venue provider
Steps we ask our students and their parents to take to keep each other healthy
- Due to the significantly lower numbers of hospitalizations and positive covid-19 cases in Bernalillo County, Learners has moved to a masks optional policy in our programs.
- If you or your student is feeling feverish, nauseous, has a cough or sore throat, is experiencing loss of taste or smell, or having any other flu-like symptoms, please keep your student home
- If there is any risk your student may have had exposure to a person who has tested positive for covid-19, please have them wear a mask.
- As part of the drop-off process, when parents sign their students in they are confirming that the answer to the following questions asked to their student is no:
- Have you had a fever or felt feverish in the past 24 hours?
- Do you have a cough or shortness of breath?
- Do you have a sore throat?
- Have you been around someone else with these symptoms in the past 14 days?
- Are you living with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
- Students are encouraged to use hand sanitizer throughout the day.
- Parents need to make sure they are reachable during the day in case their student is feeling sick and needs to be picked up
- Students are required to bring their own water bottle and encouraged to bring their own snack
- Snacks and lunch can only be eaten outside, weather allowing
- A cubby will be provided for students to store their writing utensil and worksheets overnight or during other activities
- Students are encouraged to use hand sanitizer after recess, after lunch and after using the restroom
- Students should refrain from touching their face, and encouraged to use hand sanitizer if they do accidentally touch their face
- Students are encouraged to find ways to show sportsmanship without shaking hands at the beginning and end of games, such as bowing, peace signs, or air hand shakes.
- Students must wear a mask over their nose and mouth whenever they are inside, regardless of vaccination status, unless they are taking a drink of water
- Students are responsible for holding on to their own mask if we go outside, and must keep it in their pocket when not wearing it
- Students are not allowed to eat snacks while inside the chess classroom
- Students must use hand sanitizer and/or wash their hands after using the restroom
- Students should refrain from touching their face, and encouraged to use hand sanitizer if they do accidentally touch their face
