Learners Chess Covid Guidelines for In-Person Programs


Guidelines may change closer to the start of your in-person program, so please revisit this page before attending an in-person program.

Steps Learners is taking to keep our camps healthy


Weekly Deep Cleaning

  • Boards and Pieces will be sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant
  • All dirty writing utensils will be sanitized
  • Cubbies will be sanitized
  • All tables, chairs, and door handles will be sanitized
  • The bathroom will be thoroughly cleaned


Nightly Cleaning

  • Boards and Pieces will be sprayed and wiped down with disinfectant
  • All dirty writing utensils will be removed from use and stored separately until they are cleaned
  • All tables, chairs, and door handles will be sanitized
  • The bathroom will be thoroughly cleaned


During Chess Camp

  • All Coaches are vaccinated and will wear masks other than while eating lunch
  • Clean writing utensils will be available at all times
  • Hand sanitizer will be available at all times
  • Cleansing wipes will be available at all times
  • Cubbies will be provided to students to keep their writing utensils and worksheets in to keep their materials separate
  • Door handles will be cleaned 3 times daily, after morning drop off (9:30am), after morning pickup (12:30am), and after afternoon drop off (1:30am) as well as after all students have left during our nightly cleaning
  • An air purifier will be running to keep clean air circulating through the chess classroom
  • Lunch will be held outside as often as the weather allows us
  • Snacks will not be provided by Learners
  • We are enforcing the steps we ask our students to take as well, so check those out below




Steps we ask our students and parents to take to keep our camps healthy


During Drop-Off

  • Students will check in with a Coach outside of the classroom
  • If you or your student is feeling feverish, nauseous, has a cough or sore throat, is experiencing loss of taste or smell, or having any other flu-like symptoms, please stay home
  • Parents will be asked to sign an agreement as part of the drop-off process, confirming that the answer to the following questions asked to their student is no:
    • Have you had a fever or felt feverish in the past 24 hours?
    • Do you have a cough or shortness of breath?
    • Do you have a sore throat?
    • Have you been around someone else with these symptoms in the past 14 days?
    • Are you living with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19?
  • Student temperatures will be checked upon arrival. Students with a temperature of 100 degrees or more will be sent home.
  • Students are required to use the hand sanitizer before entering the classroom
  • Students are required to wear a mask over their nose and mouth before entering the classroom


During Chess Camp

  • Parents need to make sure they are reachable during the day incase their student is feeling sick and needs to be picked up
  • Students must wear a mask over their nose and mouth at all times, including recess, regardless of vaccination status, unless they are eating food
  • Students are not allowed to share food unless they live in the same household
  • Students are required to bring their own water bottle and snack as we will not be providing snacks
  • Snacks and lunch can only be eaten outside, weather allowing
  • Students must sit 6 feet apart during lunch
  • Students should keep using the same writing utensil throughout camp. A cubby will be provided for students to store their writing utensil and worksheets overnight or during other activities
  • Students are required to use hand sanitizer after recess, after lunch and after using the restroom
  • Students should refrain from touching their face, and encouraged to use hand sanitizer if they do accidentally touch their face
  • Students are encouraged to find ways to show sportsmanship without shaking hands at the beginning and end of games, such as bowing, peace signs, or air hand shakes.
