The Central New Mexico Team Chess League started in 2012 as a project of Learners Chess Academy. This league is dedicated to serving as a team chess outlet for school chess clubs. Our aim is to insensitivize chess club participants to work together within their club to develop all players, identify and develop club leaders, and school spirit. We believe the pitfalls of chess as a solitary game are avoided when chess clubs develop around the idea of team and group success. We award team trophies that reflect the place each participating school achieve at each of our team tournaments. We also award medals to top finishing players from each school.
The bulk of the participating teams in this league are Learners Chess Academy clubs. We do have some non-LCA sponsored chess clubs that regularly compete in this league. If you would like your Central NM chess team to participate in this league, please use the contact form on this website to inquire about your team competing in our next tournament.

Please feel free to scroll through the history of our league in these results tabs.

Learners kicked off our initial team chess tournaments in the Fall of 2012 with three regional tournaments around Central NM and then a final meet in the Spring of 2013 at UNM in the Student Union Building.

In 2016, we added two new regions: the Rio Grande Valley Region and also a regional for the SAFE After School Program chess clubs that we will run in RRPS Elementary schools.

As a competative outlet for our chess clubs team tournaments allow us to coach our students to help each other get better at chess, thus serving the social and leadership development components of our mission.
